Just steps away from Old Creek Ranch is the City of San Marcos’ 18-mile maze of hiking trails, some of which are accessible from within the neighborhood of Mahogany. Also within the City of San Marcos and within walking distance of Mahogany is a 19-acre community park with ball fields, soccer field, picnic areas, an off-leash dog park and community center.

Restaurant Row, with more than a block’s worth of eateries offering casual to formal experiences and a wide variety of menus, is also nearby in San Marcos. Stadium-seating movie theaters are within a few minutes drive of Mahogany as well.

Immediately west of Old Creek Ranch is the Carlsbad community of La Costa, known for its four-star resort and spa, as well as abundant shopping arenas. The Forum at Carlsbad is among the best-loved places to shop in the region, and it’s only a short drive from Mahogany. The Forum stores include Borders bookstore, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Z-Gallerie, Anthropologie, Ann Taylor Loft, Victoria’s Secret, Tilly’s and many others. Restaurants and health and beauty services are featured as well.

Farther west of Old Creek Ranch is Legoland, the popular amusement park with rides and attractions designed with colorful children’s building bricks in mind. A new aquarium just opened to rave reviews at the Carlsbad theme park.

One of the state’s newest institute’s of higher learning, Cal State University at San Marcos, is a few miles northeast of Old Creek Ranch, providing numerous opportunities for academic and intellectual achievement.
